Discover Brittany on “Let’s Travel Radio”!

BZH New York will be recording a radio show, produced by Let’s Travel Radio, on Friday 9/25. A few members will be interviewed for the show Discover Brittany which will be aired in October. Thanks also to Michael Dodds and his team at Comite Regional du Tourisme for the documentation provided.

Born in Concarneau Brittany, he has worked in Paris and London as a chef. He has been in New York since 1976 where he opened restaurants in Westchester.

Wine, bier, cider and spirits: Benoit Ferre (Nantes) 

Benoit is a wine and spirit expert who has been importing and distributing in the US since 2007. He allies an extensive knowledge of the US market and french producers with a strong attachment for his home region.

 

Music – celtic music: Jake Otto (CT) and Mike MacNintch (NY)

Jake is the president of Bagad New York, a band composed of US musicians learning and playing Breton music – bag pipe, bombard and drums.  http://www.bagad.us. Mike and Jake could play one song.

 

Music and festivals: Jean Luc Martin (Carhaix) and Jerome Trehorel (Carhaix)

  1. JL Martin and J Trehorel are respectively President and General Manager of Vieilles Charrues Festival, the largest festival of Music in France. Both are in New York to prepare Vieilles Charrues 2016, a one day festival that will tentatively take place in NYC in fall 2016.

Started as volunteer in 1998, worked as press attache, then as sponsor manager, then communication manager and finally as general manager since 3 years.

Danse and Breton language: Marie Reine Jezequel (Brest) 

Marie Reine lives in NYC where she owns the real estate agency New York Habitat (www.nyhabitat.com), which caters to tourists traveling to New York, London, Paris, and the South of France.

In Brittany in the 1970s, Marie Reine was instrumental in founding the Diwan school, with a full curriculum in Breton. She is also very knowledgeable about traditional Breton dances, having worked to document, perform, and preserve them through the years.

Architecture and spirituality: Olivier Balavoine (Morlaix) 

Olivier has been a dad at home since 2007, in Morristown, NJ. He recently organized a pilgrimage to Brittany with 10 members of his church. The group spent 10 days traveling across Brittany, visiting churches and other Christians monuments.

 

Tourism and hospitality: Katharine Bride (NYC)

Kat Bride is a travel and lifestyle consultant at Fischer Travel, the world’s most exclusive travel agency. Based in New York, Kat thrives on introducing clients to ‘under the radar’ destinations around the world. She first traveled to Brittany in 2010 and fell in love with its unique history, landscapes, culture, language and music. Upon returning from this trip Kat began selling Brittany and continues to see interest in the area develop.  Before joining Fischer, Kat worked as a concierge and consultant at Mandarin Oriental and InterContinental Hotels. Outside of work Kat is a board member of BZH New York.
