The images were seen around the world – caught in the 20 foot waves of a treacherous storm off the coast of Alaska last week, 28 year old Rennes native, Manu Wattecamps-Etienne, made a harrowing escape from his sailboat and was miraculously picked up by an iceboat that brought him to Seattle. Since then, media coverage of his recovery – and his heartwarming determination to save his cat from the shipwreck – has sparked an outpour of solidarity from around the world. Manu’s boat, “La Chimere,” was his home, and he lost everything he owned in the storm. If you’d like to help Manu and contribute to this incredible chain of solidarity, you can donate through his GoFundMe page: https://www.gofundme.com/wb6wj8ts.
As Bretons and friends of Brittany in New York, BZH New York is committed to playing its part in helping this young Rennais get back on his feet. To this end, we’ve bought Manu a plane ticket to New York and are hosting a fundraising dinner and drinks get-together for him this coming Monday night at OCabanon.
If you’re interested in joining us to support Manu, please RSVP by replying to this email.
